''I now try and view every obstacle as an opportunity' ~ Sammie
Elite skier Sammie Gaul opens up about the connection she had with her Dad (Kieran) and how losing him to bowel cancer at 22 has helped shaped the person she is today.
Introduced to the love of skiing by her late Dad, Sammie chats with Stephanie about the challenges she faced throughout her skiing career including managing a serious injury and subsequently missing out on the Winter Olympic Team as well as navigating her Dad’s bowel cancer diagnosis and death at a young age.
'I now try and view every obstacle as an opportunity, and I treat myself like I would a really good friend.'
Talking honestly, Sammie delves into the importance of seeking support around mental health and provides some insights for other young people navigating a parent’s illness.
'Grief hits you in different ways and at different times and often the day to day can be as tough as when they pass.'
(Please note some of Sammie’s sporting journey may have changed since time of recording)
